Research on the practices of reconstruction after destruction: Cyprus

Mariia Mygal

The 1974 Cyprus conflict took lives of more than 15,000 people in a short period of time. The war forced Turks and Greeks to flee their homes to avoid ethnic persecution. For almost 50 years, the island has been divided along ethnic lines – the majority of the island is under the rule of the internationally recognised Republic of Cyprus, and 37% of the territory is under the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, recognised by Turkey.

Have the reconciliation and recovery policies been effective and have the people been able to lift the burden of war?
