At the end of 2001, the United States invaded Afghanistan with the aim of destroying al-Qaeda, removing the Taliban from power, and rebuilding the country. After the military and political situation stabilized somewhat, the US government began the costly process of rebuilding Afghanistan’s infrastructure and economy. The collapse of the Afghan government in 2021, after the United States had spent billions supporting it and the Afghan security forces, was the end of the American military mission in America’s longest war. The article identifies the main reasons for the unsuccessful reconstruction of Afghanistan by the US forces and highlights lessons that may be useful in the process of rebuilding Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
