The war forced Turks and Greeks to flee their homes to avoid ethnic persecution. For almost 50 years, the island has been divided along ethnic lines &#8211; the majority of the island is under the rule of the internationally recognised Republic of Cyprus, and 37% of the territory is under the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, recognised by Turkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have the reconciliation and recovery policies been effective and have the people been able to lift the burden of war?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>Please note!
